Poetry readings: "After Hours Open-Mic" at Trolley Square

Wildhorse Coffee and The Hive art gallery in Trolley Square are delighted to announce that through their collaboration, the Saturday Night Literary Salon we have been holding for the past year can now be expanded to include an open-mic with no content restrictions.

Announcing the "After Hours Open-Mic" from 9:00PM-Midnight every Saturday at The Hive  gallery in historic Trolley Square!  Debut will be Saturday January 30, 2010.

We had been negotiating with the mall to hold an open-mic in the open space beside the coffee shop, and had invited Salt City Slam to join us after the closing of Baxter's but the nervousness of mall management and the lack of a sound system had held us back.  This past weekend, Emily Camacho and the "Lapsed Poets Society" held an event in The Hive in conjunction with the Literary Salon, and everything fell into place.

With the opening of The Hive, Emily Edmunds has generously offered to keep the gallery open until midnight to accommodate us. Because the open-mic will be held inside her gallery, and after mall hours, the family-friendly content rules of the mall at large will not apply to us.  We have also secured a sound system. Depending on demand, Kristy Gonzales at Wildhorse Coffee will also stay open later with food and drink.  Hence the name "After Hours Open-Mic".  Note that while the mall closes at 9PM, they do not lock the south end doors, and you can arrive after 9PM.

We will still be holding the Literary Salon from 7:00-9:00 in Wildhorse Coffee where you can share your work in a more intimate setting, and even workshop it, if you wish before sharing it with a larger audience in a performance setting. We are soliciting acoustic musicians and performance artists to do sets from 8:30-9:00 as well as features.  We would like to adopt, at least at the beginning, the format from Cup of Joe days of 3 rounds, with the first round being PG content, and the second round occasionally being a featured artist.  If you would be interested in featuring, please call Eileen (phone number below).

We will be evolving our scheduling and decision-making processes over time, but want to assemble a steering committee to guide it.  I will be facilitating this process.  If you wish to be part of this process, please call Eileen.

We learned yesterday that Salt City Indie Arts is hosting the Subrosa of Salt event this coming Saturday night from 6:00-11:00 (contact Michael Dimitri for details) to benefit the victims of the Haiti earthquake.  This is an excellent cause to support.  We hope that your plans for this Saturday may include us anytime in the 7:00-12:00 window, and if not, that you will join us on future Saturday nights to shape our new venue.
